Saab Key Programming
Saab cars made since 1994 have an immobilizer system that is based on codes for keys. In order to add a second key, it requires a new transponder, as well as special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The issue is that this can be quite costly. This is why you should always have a spare key available.
Transponder key
The transponder is a piece of key that has an electronic chip. The chip transmits a signal when the key is inserted into the ignition. The car checks to see whether the signal matches the one on the key. If the signals are in sync then the car will be able to unlock and start. This is an excellent way to protect your vehicle from theft.
Transponder keys are a popular feature in vehicles, but you must be aware that they aren't as secure as traditional metal keys. While the metal component of a traditional key could be cut and copied the transponder is protected by an electronic chip. This chip contains an unique code that is inserted into a car's computers in order to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob and permit it to turn on. However, it can only do this if your key fob is unmodified and has a chip that has been programmed to match the original. In the absence of that, the car will reject the key and refuse to start.
It is essential to ensure that you have a spare key for your Saab. This is particularly important especially if you live in a rural region that has many car thieves. You can purchase a new key for your Saab by going to the dealership and not paying their pricey costs. In the majority of cases, you can have a new key made on-the-spot for less than half the cost you would pay at dealerships.
Key for Wired
Saab cars usually come with two keys when they're new. If you have only one, it is recommended to purchase an extra key fob as soon as you can since if you lose it, your car will require an entirely new CIM unit and the locking cylinders have to be replaced. This can be costly, especially for used cars.
The next step is to wire the row and column wires to the microcontroller. This is the most tedious part of the project, and it will require lots of soldering. There isn't a standard method to do it, but you need to consider how you will connect and solder each column and row. For this keyboard, there are five rows and 17 columns. So there will be 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect.
After the rows and column are joined, it is time to connect the key switches. To do this you must place a diode over each pin of the key switch and solder it. This will shield the key switch pins from current and prevent them from being shorted. A diode permits current to only flow in only one direction. It features a visual indicator that is black, that indicates the direction in which current will flow.

Jumpstarting the battery
A lot of people keep a set of jumper cables in their trunks for emergency situations, but jumping a battery on modern automobiles might not be the best choice. These cars have a variety of digital and electronic devices that communicate with one another. A surge in voltage when the battery is connected to another could cause damage to the components making your car unusable.
Connect the cables to the vehicle that is operating. Let it run for two minutes. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the good battery. ( saab 9-5 key replacement will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to a clean, unpainted metal surface beneath the damaged car's hood--the engine block is an excellent choice. In the event of theft, or other catastrophe it is recommended to have an extra key. Even even if the key is "new" it will not work.
Most locksmiths aren't able to help with a single working key, and the dealer will charge you top dollar to replace the computer in your vehicle for a replacement.
